There are several popular beaches in Thailand, it depends on what you are looking for. If you are one who craves for solace after busy time then here is an island sparsely populated where you can relax at ease.
I made my trip to Ko Yao during COVID, when rest of the world was shut down. The internal tourism in Thailand was still operating. This island is situated equidistant from Krabi and Phuket. Once you arrive at the Phuket airport, you can take a taxi to the Pier, check the location as there are many Piers. The hotels usually provide a ride from the Pier and pick up from the destination Pier. The boat ride is approximately an hour and a half, plan yourself if it rains around the time.

Once you are at the island, you can walk around though better to take tuktuk or motorbikes in the night if its too dark as there are little lights. There are limited yet diverse stay options that range from farm stays to beach shacks and hotels with beach views. There are several things you can do here as I explored the location with the locals. Here are some options I tried and a few others that may interest you:
The boat ride to three islands nearby where you can stroll, hike or even swim. Some of these islands also have stay options near the beach that I discovered. They seemed quite cut off from the main island though. But these beaches and the ride on the long tail boat is an experience.
I learned about a batik workshop at the hotel that was slight far from the hotel. I joined the half day workshop and ended up working on two stoles. The ladies at the workshop are wonderful and very open to ideas. I chose to make my own design and they helped me through it.
I took a ride to the local fields and the mangrove areas nearby. I learned about the local way of life. The majority of the population on the island are Muslims, so you will find a lot of mosques and food much varied in flavor. There are range of restaurants especially seafood which overlook the mangroves providing a great view.
There are fish farms somewhere the middle of the island. It's like watching a live aquarium, holding huge lobsters in my hand was an unforgettable experience. The variety of fish and understanding the breeding process is extremely enriching.
One of my most peaceful and refreshing vacation to myself. I often remember the calm and pleasant atmosphere around this area. It was a long journey, worth it.
